The Fort Mason Golf Association annual Fundraiser Tournament was held on Saturday, April 6th at the Comanche Creek Golf Course.

On Saturday, April 20th, Delta Kappa Gamma members of the Beta Zeta Chapter of Fredericksburg spent a “Ladies Day Out in Mason,” touring the museums, the library, and having lunch in Mason.
Mason is rich in the history of the early Hill Country settlers. The first stop was the Square Museum.

The Mason County Habitat for Humanity fundraiser on Saturday, May 18th is rapidly approaching.
This is the eleventh year for this highly anticipated annual event. Tickets traditionally sell out long before May 18th, so if you do not have your tickets yet, you may want to make your way to The Camber of Commerce, The Mason Gallery, The Mane Attraction, The Commercial Bank or Sandstone Cellars.
This fundraiser started 11 years ago mainly as a wine tasting.

On Saturday, April 6, Saudi Arabian students under the leadership of their President Amel Alsherie and the support of Abdullah Alhadhrami, Abdullah Kalifa and Othman Alsaeed brought their families and friends to explore West Texas nature and culture. This 2013 MCRW Home Tour is to be held Saturday, April 20th, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with tickets available at Market Square for $10 each. On April 20th tickets can be purchased at any place on the tour. Directions are provided with each ticket.
A portion of this year’s MCRW Spring Home Tour involves three destination areas well known to local residents.

Once again the Mason community has rallied to support the youth of our county as the MCRW prepares its 27th Spring Home Tour on April 20th. All the proceeds from this tour go toward scholarships for Mason County graduates. Tickets are $10.00 each, and can be purchased at Market Square or on April 20th at any home on the tour.
Part of this year’s tour is a “family affair” with three of our homeowners having family connections.

Bill Brollier was only 24 when he was assigned to the 389th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force in Hethel, England in 1944. The journey had begun for him in 1942, shortly after graduating from the Schreiner Institute in Kerrville, Texas, with an engineering degree in 1939.
It was in 1942 that he enlisted in the Air Force, and by January of 1943, he had already been called up for service.

The Mason Garden Club adopted the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library’s front flowerbeds last year, and they are making a lovely difference in the appearance of the grounds. On March 14 members prepared the beds near the Old Yeller statue for planting herbs and native grasses. They also weeded the beds by the front walk.

The Mason Study Club held a short meeting on Tuesday, March 12th. Two items of business were discussed. The first item regarded the upcoming Ham sale, with the order deadline being Saturday, March 16th, and the delivery date being Saturday, March 23rd. The second order of business concerned the proposed slate of officers for the 2013-2014 year.
The nominees recommended by the nominating committee were unanimously approved.

When I first met Tonya Huston in late 2009 she was just getting ready for a trip to Rwanda to assist with a project called True Vineyard Ministries. She had learned how to shear sheep in Ballinger and was ready to transfer what she knew to a very eager group of men and women in Rwanda who were raising sheep, shearing them and then spinning the wool into yarn for sale.

It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon and Pat Dixon, Tony Plutino, Don Jacques and John Jacques came to The Painted Tree Studio. The painting was a Black Cow.
Each of us learned more about a cow than we had every thought about… such as the curve of the ear, position of the eyes, how the hair grows in a unique ‘cow lick’ on its forehead.
