During Monday's regularly scheduled meeting of the Mason County Commissioner's Court, Sheriff Buster Nixon discussed the ongoing problem of having to handle loose livestock around the county. A look at the Sheriff's 911 call report on page 5 of this issue reveals that the Sheriff's department spends an inordinate amount of time putting up livestock that have gotten through fences and on to public roadways.
Sheriff Nixon explained that, in many instances, it is the same livestock or same group ...

Esmeralda who?
Obviously Spanish is my second language.
Esmeralda is Spanish for emerald.
Got that right.
But it ain’t the right name for the plant with yellow flowers.
That would be Esperanza.
Well, they both start with an E.
And then an s.
Esmeralda Esperanza.
What a pretty name.
Muy bonita.
Except the similarities stop there.
Esmeralda is emerald.
Esperanza means “hope” or “expectation.”
So maybe there’s hope for my Spanish.
Best not have any expectation.
The plan ...

“Her children rise up and call her blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied); and her husband boasts of and praises her.” Proverbs 31:28. Hope you had a great Mother’s Day!
Summer must be here. It sure feels like it with all of the high temperatures and a small promise for rain.

Sugary Drink Overload
It’s time to address America’s hidden drinking problem - the rivers of sugary soft drinks, juices, and other beverages we guzzle daily. This is something my husband I discuss almost daily- his vice is Dr. Pepper and he doesn’t drink near enough water. The only way I can get him to drink it is by having a pitcher of sugar free drink (like Crystal Light or Kool-Aid, but we use the generic) in the fridge at all times.

A-Camping We Will Go…
Column #315 for Release Saturday, May 9, 2009, or Later
Much is heard these days about “faith-based” initiatives.
At the risk of tackling a topic that may seem “mighty churchy” to some, I submit to you that an ongoing effort of thousands of churches centers on camps.
Most of them focus on children/teen programs that have been around for several decades.

On my monthly trip to Fredericksburg to satisfy my Wally World craving, I saw a sight that was really a life’s story. There were peddlers, but they were in the marked shoulder of the highway. However, ahead of them was a big John Deere tractor, with its flashers going.
With enough room to go around the peddlers and the John Deere, I saw another couple of peddlers just ahead of the BIG John Deere tractor.

My wife and I recently spent a weekend in Rockport, Texas, which is very similar to regular Texas, except it’s damper and windier, and smells like fish. There is a very good reason for this, but I can’t remember what it is.
We go to Rockport as often as we can, which is not really all that often.

Family Values
The following thoughts on family values is intended —(hopefully) to direct the thinking of parents toward the importance of home discipline (a course in which my father majored and taught quite forcibly.)
********
One could well believe that as there were changes in family values there were also cultural changes which added their influence to the downfall of the American family.

Insomnia plagues many of us. With some, it is chronic, with others it is a short term. There are many causes. Among these are stress, indigestion, mineral deficiency, hormone imbalance, too much caffeine, prescription drugs, etc.
Restless leg syndrome is a common form of insomnia. In many cases, it is caused by a pH imbalance in the body and can be helped by supplementing a balanced calcium/magnesium formula.

I've written before about my fascination with gadgets and technology. At that time, I made no bones about my being a big ol' nerd.
This last weekend, I proved it once again.
Peanut's wife, Rosemary, had run to Lubbock with her mom for the weekend. Since Peanut's mom is in Fort Worth, and my mom is gone, we decided to sneak away on Sunday afternoon and see a movie over in Fredericksburg.
Not just any movie, mind you.
