Back in the saddle again. It’s back-to-school time. You know what that means. So long, August. Can’t say we’re sorry to see you go. Although it’s been memorable. Hotter than a $2 pistol is what it’s been. 1925 holds the record. And they can have it. Bring on Autumn. Let the leaves begin. Begin to turn and fall. And cool down these 100-degree days. Ah, Nature. What an equalizer. We’re all hot. Every single dang one of us. Weather plays no favorites. We all share in ...

I have just returned from the cave and even though there were only five people there, it was a phenomenal evening. I’ve seen a lot of heads shaking and the phrase, “This world is going to the dogs,” said this year. I’m not sure what is entailed in that phrase, but I’m not going to take any chances. Thus, I’m going to surround myself with dogs. By the time this gets out in the newsstands and in your mail boxes, Z will have cooled down.

Is That the Stench of Moral Decay That I Smell? PROLOGUE: As one whose reading is limited primarily to news-paper Editorials I have made a practice of saving those articles which contained opinions appealing to my way of thinking. Having nothing better to do and hoping that you might take pleasure from reading them, I have taken excerpts from a large group of these articles and pieced them into a quilt-work of depressing convictions which reflect many of the ills of our country.

Dear Gerry: The Congress is considering a proposal to create a new mega-regulator designed to address abusive financial practices.  Not only would this approach undermine small community banks and cause more harm than good, but it also misses the best opportunity to protect consumers: namely, addressing the too-big-to-fail concentration risks among our nation’s biggest banks that have cost Americans over $7 trillion in economic worth. No one disagrees that consumers need to be protected fr ...
