Sandstone Winery held the release party for its newest wine, VI, on November 14. A great crowd was on hand to help them celebrate this milestone, including cookbook author, Terry Thompson-Anderson, and their friends from all over the area.

The football season came to an end Friday night when the Mason Punchers met up with Fall City Beavers at the Boerne High School stadium. The Punchers lost the game in over time, 31-37.

Tannenbaum, Mason's most anticipated event associated with Thanksgiving and Christmas, is ready for the season. This production will again be held at the Mason County Park in the Community Building. November 28, booths will be open at 9 and will close at 4. The inside booths have been sold out to a number of first time participants, and to others returning with their ever popular wares.

More than two hundred citizens and friends of Mason County attended the first membership meeting of the newly formed Texas Hill Country Heritage Association. Despite a malfunctioning p.a. system, limited parking, and standing room only for late arrivals, the enthusiasm of the speakers and the impressive turnout made the event a success. THCHA Chairman Lee Lasater gave introductory remarks about the challenge that faces us.

Come help us celebrate the holiday season during the Christmas Chamber Mixer on December 3, 2009, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Mixer will be held at Miss Alma’s Bed and Breakfast located at 505 San Antonio Street in Mason. Miss Alma’s is owned and operated by Joel & Pattie Allen. Miss Alma’s Bed & Breakfast is a beautifully restored large Victorian house that was built in 1877 and the upstairs was added on in 1907.

Alpha Beta Psi presents the annual "Light Up Our Town" program this Saturday, beginning at 4:15 p.m. and ending with the lighting of the Christmas displays around the town. Santa Claus arrives on the square at 4:15 p.m., and everyone is reminded to bring along their camera to get a photo while the little ones explain to Santa what it is they want under the tree this year. At 5:00 p.m., the musical entertainment, featuring the best of Mason's local talent, will begin.

The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, Nov. 17th, for its regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 42 members and 4 visitors in attendance. Among the visitors were 4 Mason High School students, Kaitlyn Cavness, Kambrey Hudson, Virginia Lemke, and Jenny Smith. Lion John Gammill was responsible for the program and introduced Roy Cooper who spoke about his firearms collection.

This Thursday, Thanksgiving, I’ll have met the halfway mark for this wheel chair bit! At least I’m hoping it will be! I’m now sporting a new maroon hard cast. And it’s a heavy one! You have to have to ask questions to doctors and ask that they tell you the answers in "5th Grade English!"

The past several weeks have been busy around Mason and throughout the community. The on-going concerns about the possibilities of a large electric transmission line through Mason County continues to generate much anxiety, with about 200 people showing up last week for the first meeting of the Texas Hill Country Heritage Association.

Several actions will be taken to reduce the inconvenience library patrons will experience during January, 2010, when the library will be closed for renovations. In January during regular library business hours, a paperback exchange will be set up outside the library kitchen back door so that paperback books may be picked up and returned there.

Leftover Turkey Recipes Here are 2 of my favorite things to do with leftover turkey: Green Chile Turkey Enchiladas (If you don’t like chile just leave it out- they will be bland but still good!) 4 cups diced turkey 2 c. roasted, peeled, and chopped green chile 1 26 oz. can cream of chicken soup milk (use can to measure) 2 c.

I had planned to turn fifty quietly. I was fairly sure I had Donna and T. J. blocked from pulling anything "cute" this year, so went through last Tuesday confident that this week would be a safe one. As most of you know by now, I have been named the Lone Finalist for the Superintendent’s position at the Lago Vista Independent School District. Lago Vista is located approximately fifteen miles west of Austin and twenty seven miles east of Marble Falls. Lago Vista ISD has approximately 1300 students in grades K-12.

The December 5th Christmas Concert of the Fredericksburg Chorale features beginnings, impossible to imagine, and comprehended only once they are seen. The first half of the Christmas concert will be part one of Haydn’s oratorio, The Creation. Haydn, upon visiting London, heard for the first time Handel’s Messiah and was inspired to write his own oratorio or unstaged drama.

On Veterans Day, November 11, 2009, Lawn Elementary School in the Jim Ned I.S.D. held a special celebration honoring the parents, grandparents and families of its students that were veterans. One of those students, Halle Jordan Cooley, invited her grandfather, Bill Brollier, to be part of the celebration. Patsy Troell of Pleasanton, president of Alamo District of Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs traveled to Mason on November 16 to bring the message of Federated Women Making an Impact Through Volunteerism to Bluebonnet Study Club members. Mrs. Troell began her remarks with the statement that Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs is a part of a much bigger organization, The General Federation of Women’s Clubs, that has a world wide reach.

Our first stop began with Lee and Kacey Butcher’s off-the-grid home situated on the rim of a cliff. The Butchers spent over a year literally building their place by their own two hands.

Gerardo and Deborah Marquez of San Antonio, are parents of a son. The baby was born on Friday, September 25, 2009 at 5:48 p.m. at North Central Baptist Hospital in San Antonio. The baby was named Noah Anthony. He weighed seven pounds, five ounces and was 20 inches long. Noah is lovingly welcomed by three brothers: Edgar, Xavier and Andres; and one sister, Gabriella.

James Schwertner recently exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Simbrah heifer at the State Fair of Texas Junior Show. The State Fair show is one of the major shows for youth in Texas and draws contestants from across the state. Brandon Callis, College Station, Texas served as judge.

Mason ISD has an excellent Mentor program with many caring and loving Mentors. The school is so grateful to every one of them for the important role they play in each of these student’s lives. This year we have many mentor requests that we cannot fill, so we are asking the community for help.

The Mason County Sheriff's Department has reported that on Monday, between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., three vehicles parked on the north side of Zavala's were burglarized. The thieves made off with guns, cash and other items. The Sheriff's Department is asking anyone who may have seen any suspicous activity during that time period to please give them a call at 347-5252.

By all accounts, last Friday's game should have been a blowout for the Falls City Beavers. They were ranked fourth, the Punchers fifteenth.Instead, the Mason team continued building up a head of steam all night, finally taking the game into overtime before narrowly losing the matchup with an intercepted pass!In early play, Falls City quickly showed the crowd why they were so highly ranked.
