I am writing this at 3:52 P.M. on Sunday, July 4th. I wanted everyone to feel the frustration that I am feeling right this second. Many feel it because they have been calling since Thursday asking, "Are you going to be open?" I just checked radar and it shows that we have a 50% chance of HEAVY RAIN for this afternoon and tonight.

There is excitement in the air around Mason. Last weekend was the Fourth of July and the annual fireworks north of town was as fun as ever and the weather finally cleared up for the picnics around town and fun at the river. This next weekend is the annual Round-up parade, crafts fair and rodeo and it seems that everyone I talk with is looking forward to some activity during the busy weekend.

Sarah Palin Complicates Birthday Plans… Uncle Mort, who completed 98 years on earth within hours of this writing, faced a fistful of unexpected pre-birthday decisions. Usually, his impalement is no more serious than the "horns of a dilemma." This time, it was more nearly a rack of antlers, like the points on a full-grown East Texas buck. Learning that Sarah Palin had scheduled a stop in East Texas, Mort fretted that plans for his big birthday ...

Sometimes, amid all the fireworks, fishing trips, hot dogs, inner tubes, watermelon, barbecue, and Aunt Edna’s prize winning potato salad, we forget what Independence Day is really all about. After watching the movie ‘Pearl Harbor,’ for the third t ...

Units of measure and other terminology pertaining to nutritional supplements are sometimes confusing. Most vitamins and minerals are measured in milligrams (mg.) or micrograms (mcg.). These are measurements of weight that are based on the metric system. A milligram is one thousandth of a gram and a microgram is one thousandth of a milligram. For some perspective on this, consider that it takes 28.35 grams to make an ounce and 16 ounces make a pound. The point I want t ...
