I am sitting here at this computer trying desperately to think of a word, group of words, or even a page of words to describe the Early Morning Return on Saturday, September 18TH. I struggled with words like awesome, breath-taking, phenomenal, extraordinary, exceptional, unique, unusual, rare, extra special, out of the ordinary, unparalleled and even mind blowing.

It seems like everyone wants to reduce their cholesterol. There are some great natural ways to do this, but everyone is unique – so what works for one, may not work for another. Cholesterol is necessary for many body functions, meaning that you don’t want to reduce it completely, but you don’t want unhealthy levels either. If you want to work on the cause, a good place to start is looking at the diet.

Canape. "Can nap." But it doesn’t mean one "can nap." It’s actually French for "sofa," as in "an upholstered divan." Which you could nap on. But here in America where we have Free Speech, we say it like it is. Or however we feel like saying it. So we call it canapé. (Notice the accent mark.) And pronounce it "canopy"

Doneness Versus Safety I had a great Food Safety class for restaurant managers this week, so food safety’s on my mind right now. A while back I was cooking pork tenderloin, and it seems as though I never know exactly how long to cook it. I figured if I was having this problem, you all might be too, hence the food safety reminder.

When Underdogs Prevail… The average weight of monkeys is around 20 pounds. Tell that to football coaches whose teams face opponents that are vastly inferior, yet sometimes rise up to score shocking upsets. The "monkeys on their backs" feel more like overgrown gorillas whose weight doesn’t lessen until other coaches suffer the same fate a week later, or when their own teams score wins. Should red-faced coaches have open dates after stunni ...

I've always noticed, when dealing with some of Mason's older citizens, that they sometimes say inappropriate things. Not that what they say is incorrect, it's just that most of us censor ourselves and hold in some comments, or at least wait for a more conducive setting to let those comments roll off our tongues. I am discovering, as I get older, that it is a factor in the aging process that loosens our tongues a bit.
