Lets not kid ourselves. As we made our way to Winters last week we were all wondering if the Punchers could regroup from a difficult loss to Goldthwaite and defeat an opponent who was a 10 point favorite and guaranteeing a win. The answer is a resounding YES, as our Punchers looked adversity straight in the eye, picked themselves up off the canvass, dusted themselves off and then treated the Mason Faithful to what I believe was the most exciting game of the season by defeating Winte ...

Chocolate. Chock-O-Lot. And thanks a lot to the Mayans and Aztecs. Muchas gracias. For chocolate. 2,000 years old. An ancient elixir. Made as a hot beverage with chili. Cured everything. Still might. Christopher Columbus took cocoa beans back to Spain. But Spanish friars actually introduced it to Europe. There they added milk and sugar. And used vanilla, another Mexican spice, ins ...

In honor of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, I thought I’d start November off with some non-traditional sweet potato recipes. Sweet potatoes are very nutritious! All of the stuff we add to them may not be…. A World of Twists and Turns… Rarely has a single word—"turn"—morphed into so many uses. Satellite navigation systems screaming "turn, turn, turn" account for some increased usage. A while back, after I wrote about an incident where the TCEQ seriously addressed a complaint about hunters defecating in the woods, quite a few people felt compelled to let me know the exact depth of their regard for that government agency. It seems no one, at least no one who wrote to me, holds TCEQ in high esteem.

Many nutritional factors affect our mood. Mood is determined not only by what we think and feel, but by physiological things such as blood sugar, food sensitivities, liver function and vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Foods greatly influence the brain. Poor diets, particularly those with too much sugar, caffeine and junk food are a common cause of depression and irritability.

Last week's election results really came as no surprise to anyone who has actually been watching the news and keeping up with current events. When Wednesday dawned, the House had reverted to Republican dominance (by a huge majority) and the Senate had a more even spread between the two major parties. The pundits and talking heads were immediately all over the story, asking, "What are the voters saying?"

Dear Editor: When the newest Verizon phone book was delivered last month, a terrible oversight was noted: there is no listing for the Mason Clinic. Please note that the clinic number is the same as it has always been, 325-347-5926, and will be listed in future directories under both Mason Clinic and Frontera Healthcare - Mason Clinic. The number is also prominently displayed on the sign on College Street and is found in our weekly advertisement in the Mason County News. ...
