During the past few weeks I have been away from Mason attending a Texas Municipal League conference and taking some personal time to rest and relax on vacation, and so I have not written a column in some time. During this time, the City has had a Commissioner resign and we have discussed and begun the process of appointing a replacement; there has been construction on the north side of town along Pontotoc St to place a new water main and that stage should be completed next week with ...

The "Best" Pumpkin Pie Courtesy John Innis My son, John, is a great cook, and every year, for the last 10 or 12, he’s been called upon to bake two of his pumpkin pies for the annual Thanksgiving get-together. We’ve tried other recipes, but none of them measure up to John’s, so the Innis Clan has declared it the "BEST"

One of my favorite television shows of all time was ‘Green Acres.’ And my favorite character on Green Acres was Arnold the pig. Which is pretty logical, when you think about it, since Arnold was the only person in Hooterville with any intelligence. But as much as I liked Arnold the pig, I still eat bacon.

It has been said that Turkeys are the dumbest of all animals! However, they don’t say but one word and that is GOBBLE-GOBBLE! Think about this and they’re not so dumb! They know that all us humans think about is GOBBLING up all they can. So, when they see us and do their GOBBLE-GOBBLE, they’re telling us exactly what we’re thinking of and are going to do. Thus, when you’re gobbling up all that turkey and STUFF, know that the turkey knew it all al ...

Uncle Mort and Ivory Towers… In a land of make-believe, I’d refer to Mort as a "foster uncle," with hope that he might soon be adopted, taking his opinions, suggestions and cockamamie schemes along to "bless" some other family. I was down to my last nerve a few days back, and my 98-year-old uncle down in the thicket stepped on it. "I never thought it could happen, nephew, but you are partially responsible for the demise of elephants as t ...

Today is the 51st. Birthday, that is. Mine. Normally I'm content to let such celebrations pass by with as little fanfare as possible; but, I'm rather proud of this one. I'm now past the half way mark of a century. With the longevity of many members of m family, that is a reasonable and entirely feasible proposition.
