The country was greatly weakened by the lean years of the Great Depression and President Roosevelt was resisting British pressure to join the fight against Hitler and the German Third Reich. In addition to the rising threat in Europe, the Japanese were waging war against China and threatening to disrupt the entire Southeast Asia area.

The only records my Uncle Mort may one day claim will be measured in breadth or depth. He has to be a contender in the leaping contest—the one for “jumpers” to conclusions—as well as the timed event for arrival at the bottom line. He’s done bunches of both during his 99 years on the planet, blissfully ignoring facts along the way.Sometimes he gets to bottom lines before wet paint signs have been removed….*****He had politics and painting on his mind when h ...

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend, and had plenty to eat and the pleasure of family and friends to share with. The Mason Puncher football team certainly did a good job of making everyone’s weekend a little more special on Friday night, and we hope for good things to continue to happen in the coming weeks as they fight for a State Championship.

Fat – A great after Thanksgiving topic. Fat is that horrible stuff that hangs in all the wrong places on your body. I’m not even sure that there is a “right” place for the stuff. Americans in general have been getting fat for some time and it seems to have gotten worse lately.

Once upon a time there were five little pigs. The first little pig, an activist, went to New York to protest the fat cats at the Stock Market. The second little pig, a working capitalist, stayed home and worked to support the first little pig. The third little pig had roast beef, from Texas no doubt.

1. Almond & Apricot Biscotti. When making the biscotti, add some almonds and apricots for extra nutrients! Use whole wheat flour, low-fat milk, egg whites, and canola oil for a healthy alternative! 2. Fruit Baskets. Gather a bunch of little baskets, cut up fruit of your choice (use cookie cutters to make it fancy), and place on skewers for a wonderful gift!

Once again it’s time to start thinking about looking into the possibility of considering whether to mull over the idea of maybe setting a date, somewhere in the future, for planning to knock around the feasibility of trying to get some Christmas shopping done.I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, if you’re a guy, that I’m jumping the gun here.

We've already started the road trips. During the regular football season, we traveled to Eldorado and Goldthwaite. And then, the playoffs started, and the road trips got more,,, interesting. There was Harlandale Stadium in San Antonio. The stadium is great; but, the journey there involves some rather dicey neighborhoods along the way.

WOW! Way to go, Mason Punchers, and as for you coaches, I’ve never seen a better job preparing your team. You obviously did a superb job scouting Ganado to prevent the Number One team in the state from scoring a single point. But guess who was watching you; it was the SHINER COMANCHES!

“There’s one thing on this earth more important than money, and that’s land!”Giant – 1956Money, greed, selfishness…….. all evil things that can bring destruction to family, heritage, and the loss of family values. News of potential sand mines that would ruin the small towns of Pontotoc and Katemcy really are not surprising, giving the fact that these Corporate Giants have no cares or interests in air quality, pollution, and a way of life that gener ...

With every new disclosure that comes out, we hear about failure to report, failure to act, failure to protect. Just like other institutional sex abuse scandals, the daily developments at Penn State reveal a systemic and systematic failure to do what is morally right and to protect vulnerable children from inappropriate and allegedly abusive behavior. Each one of us has a moral – and in Texas, a legal – obligation to report child abuse when we see it or suspect it.

Q1 (Michael Murphy). What landscape restoration plans does Proppant Specialists have for the operations in the Katemcy area? A1. The company plans a long-term investment at this site, with mining lasting possibly up to 60 years.
