Alright Puncher fans, here we go! The Punchers continue to roll to the State Semi-finals game to be played against the Bulldogs of Garrison. Last week’s game featured two fine teams with one having prepared for the elements and one possibly not. Last week’s practice for the Punchers in preparation for the Shiner game and forecast for Fridays game time included a good dose of water on all the player’s hands as well as rain soaked balls before each snap and each play.

Last Friday, Georgetown had rain almost all day long. Everyone knew that such weather conditions can quickly level the playing field between two teams; and, they also knew that any team that could overcome the weather might have a distinct advantage. As it turned out, Shiner seemed unable to hold on to the ball Friday night, while Mason not only held on to the ball, they capitalized on every fumble that Shiner made.

A County Judge in a small county such as Mason has the responsibility of wearing many "hats" and performing various duties assigned to the Judge by the State of Texas. One of these responsibilities is that the County Judge must appoint a person to replace a member of the Commissioners Court is that person resigned or is deceased.I have had to experience this task just a short time ago when Commissioner John Fleming passed away.

As islands go, it’s a small one—32 miles long and 2.5 at its widest point—but thanks to the grit and determination of visionaries who dug in 109 years ago, it’s still on maps. Mother Nature almost eliminated Galveston Island during the Great Storm of 1900. Winds peaked at 145 MPH; the entire island was covered by raging flood waters seven feet deep.Nature’s calling card of carnage marked the nation’s deadliest natural disaster.

Congratulations to the Puncher football team that moved one step closer to a state championship this past Friday night. Good luck to them this coming Friday, and I hope that they can keep playing the outstanding ball game that they have shown us all season. The weather moved one step closer to winter this weekend also with the north wind and the much needed rain.

‘C’ is for castor oil packs - an old fashioned remedy made popular by Edgar Cayce in the 1930’s. It was used therapeutically in ancient India, China, Persia, Egypt, Greece, Africa, Italy and Europe. In that time it was so effective that it was known as “the hand of Christ” or “the Palma Christi”.Castor oil packs are used for many conditions.

Seventeen years ago, I was a Jack C. Hayes Rebel mom. We were going to the semi-finals this Friday. No losses to the Rebels had been made. They were a forth quarter team and had you standing and biting your fingernails to the bitter end. Oh, yes, this will never been forgotten. So, to all of you Puncher moms, you are having the ride of your life.

What a fun time we had driving to Art UMC Sunday…in the rain!! I just wanted to hop out of the truck and start “Singing In The Rain”, except I don’t sing very well and didn’t want to startle anyone or be late for church! It was wonderful though, like a blast from the past, “of days gone by when it rained”!

Since we are in the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons, I am going to try to describe what Christmas was like and how we celebrated the Christmas Season in the Hill Country during the days of the thirties while the Great Depression was still in effect for most families and at that time, I thought our family was at the low end of the Totem Pole as for as wealth was concerned but later in life, I discovered that was the norm.Thanksgiving and Christmas was always a feast to behold which consist ...

While Christmas decorations reflect the joy and beauty of the holiday season, they also pose a risk if not used or placed properly “Nothing can spoil the holidays like an accident that might have been prevented by taking a moment to ensure decorations were put out or removed as safely as possible,” said Dr.

The Christmas season is a wonderful time of year, full of joy and peace and goodwill and Christmas music and food and hunting and plenty of other great stuff. Unfortunately it’s also full of traffic and shopping and Christmas music and chimney fires and tacky lighting and inlaws and fake Santas and lots of other horrors.

This is another quick and easy bread recipe that’s worth giving a try. I’ve made it about 3 times, and have experimented with several different aspects of the recipe. As I always do, I remain “true” to the original recipe on the first pass. Then, based upon what I learn from it, I will begin playing games with the original to see if I can produce a better product.

The lights have been up for a couple of weeks. The Christmas music is on every station. And now, the cold weather has arrived. It's hard not to feel the cheer of the holiday when all this starts coming together.Around town, there's that "tingle" in the air that always goes hand in hand with the time from Thanksgiving till New Year's Day.

Every week critics of our nearby sand mines have more and more to say.The are or will pollute ground water, are polluting the air, causing satellite images of where some of them are to look like satellite images of Iraq, contributing to the loss of family values, and more!Although this list of the harm the mines do, gets longer every week, I do not believe things are this bad.To dig a hole and get sand and rocks out of it does not pollute ground water in my opinion.

The way our nation is going has caused me great concern and soul searching. More and more people are dropping into poverty in America, and the callousness that many people show toward this fact appalls me. I wonder what life would be like if we really lived out what Jesus preached and what his early followers were inspired to demonstrate with their lives.

What is this Happy Holidays in our small town? Are we too busy to say Merry Christmas? I don’t go with Merry Xmas. My Lord is not an X in my life. He is King of kings and Lord of Lords so I feel that we should respect the fact that Jesus is the reason for the season and He should be honored enough to see His name in our wishes.
