David Hatala claims no kinship to Cupid, but as operator of a fondue restaurant where proposals of marriage are common, he’s a willing accomplice upon request. Hundreds, maybe thousands, of suitors have popped the question in the intimate “lovers’ lane” area tucked away inside The Melting Pot, an upscale eatery in Arlington. He happily strives to accommodate “ring bearers,” and he thought a recent vignette might be a unique prelude to the upcoming Valentine ...

January isn't as exciting as November and December. The Christmas holidays are so pretty. Then come January!! Tax statements and bills are what we received in January. No pretty cards. Nancy and I hope that everyone has begun the New Year blessed with good health, prosperity, happiness, and good books! Some of you will be reminiscing about the past year—resolutions kept or forgotten, special events happy or sad. If you have lost someone dear to you, you might consider giving a memorial donation to the library in his or her honor.

There is a limit. Camouflage is a valuable item, and normally I have nothing against it, but there is a limit. I had assumed that limit had been reached a few years ago, when I wrote about a camouflage colored chest freezer for sale at Wal-Mart. I was wrong. When I was a kid, the camo industry was in its infancy, in relative terms.

The story goes that these biscuits got their name from the fact that they are about the size of a cat’s head. The original recipe directs you to “scoop” the dough out of the mixing bowl and into the cooking vessel, rather than cutting the dough with a biscuit cutter, jelly jar, or old tuna fish can.
