Thanks to the generous donation of Brent and Monica Hinckley, the Mason Ministerial Alliance will have the use of their premises located at 324 Fort McKavitt for the operation of the Mason Food Bank. The new location is next to the Community Thrift Store.Beginning Monday February 13, 2012, the Mason Food Bank will distribute food from 3:00 to 5:30 PM at this new location.

Attention all tennis fans!On Wednesday, February 8th @ 6:00pm, Mason Tennis Association (MTA) will have a special meeting to discuss plans to resurface and repair courts 1-4 and courts 9&10. The meeting will begin at 6pm at the High School Library. The Odeon in Mason Texas is the oldest small theater in West Texas. Every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday evenings you can see a recent Hollywood movie for just $4.00. In addition to movies, The Odeon Preservation Society, also brings in well known musicians, dancers, artistic lectures and other cultural events which are of interest and entertainment to our community and its surrounding counties.

The Texas Historical Commission informed County Judge Jerry Bearden that the County’s application for emergency funding for repairs and restoration to the Mason County Courthouse had been approved. The County’s application was part of the Round VII Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program that included 40 county applicants and of those, the THC Commissioners selected 7 major projects and 6 smaller projects to be funded.

My “weather confusion condition” is getting a little better after last weeks’ rain and cooler days. It’s amazing what a little rain can do. The rain coming about once a week, and the warm temperatures and sunshine make the past few weeks seem more like spring than winter. Kidneys are the organs that maintain our water balance and help manage the pH of our bodies. While we generally think of kidneys as organs that get rid of water, they actually conserve water by filtering waste products into urine while returning the rest to the blood stream. Approximately 100 quarts of liquid are filtered through the kidneys daily with only 1½ quarts passing out of the body as urine.High protein diets are hard on the kidneys.

Of every bad thing that happens, there’s a good thing that comes from it. My computer got zapped on the 9th of January, however I can still play my games! Then I got a new computer and will soon have Y5 rabbit speed! No longer will I connect after ten minutes and have to wait fifty more minutes for my mail to come up.The toilet seat is now broken and has become a Democrat!

If you’re not aware of the Mason County Garden Club, you may not realize what “go-getters” they are! Sheri Clarkson (President) and a dozen or so members came last week and spent the afternoon cleaning up our front flowerbeds. The Garden Club has officially adopted the library as a public service project.

The Mason Lions club met Tuesday, January 24th, for its regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 36 members and one visitor in attendance. Last Friday, Carol Conlee brought Jaston Williams and his manager by the office prior to the beginning of his fabulously successful weekend of fundraising for the Odeon Theater. Jaston and I have a number of acquaintances in common from Austin, and we really enjoyed having a few moments to chat about those special people in our lives.During our conversation, I explained to Jaston why I already knew that his weekend in town would be a good experience.

The Heart of Texas Country Music Association will celebrate its 23th Anniversary on Friday and Saturday, March 23rd and 24th, and Friday and Saturday, March 30th and 31st in Brady. The festivities will include a Welcome Party and Dance on the Friday nights at the Heart of Texas Events Center, an afternoon Matinee Concert at 1:00 PM on the Saturdays followed by a Dance on Saturday night at the Brady Civic Center.

On Tuesday, January 24th, the Riata Service Organization visited Mount Carmel Hermitage in Christoval. The Hermitage is about 25 miles south of San Angelo.Deacon Martin Mary, the first Monk to become ordained at the Hermitage, gave a tour of the facility. After the tour, Riata members visited the Hermitage gift shop where they enjoyed some of their bakery items.

Mason City Manager John Palacio spoke to members of the Bluebonnet Study Club on Monday, January 16. His first topic was the new reverse osmosis water system located on the grounds of the Richard P. Eckert Center. He told the group that water that has been cleaned of radium and other impurities is available to Mason residents free of charge now.

RV Care-A-Vanners is a volunteer program for anyone who travels in a recreational vehicle, wants to build Habitat houses and have fun doing it. There are four groups of volunteers who will begin arriving in Mason on February 12th. The last work day is scheduled for Friday, April 20th. The Mason Garden Club had a work day at the M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library on January 24. As one of their projects, the club voted to help take care of the flower beds at the library. It was especially nice that right after they finished their work, it started raining.
