The Mason tennis team added three more state championships to its list of accomplishments this season. The team had already added a 10th straight 2A state team championship and now it has upped its individual state championship mark to 78 titles. Highland Park, a 4A powerhouse, is a distant 2nd place with 41 titles.

Young Life started in 1941 by a youth minister in Gainesville, Texas with a vision to reach out to high school students who had no interest in church. Young Life has grown into a worldwide ministry, and is now in Mason! The Young Life vision in Mason is to provide opportunities for every adolescent in Mason to meet Jesus and follow Him.

This Saturday is Election Day for municipalities around the state, and if you have not voted during Early Voting and live in District 1 or District 3 in the City of Mason you have an opportunity to choose who will represent you for the next two years on the City Commission.

A month or so ago I made a pesto recipe that I adapted from the Electric Co-op magazine. They were having a contest for Texas Nut recipes and I noticed this one because I love cilantro, and I love pecans! Cilantro is one of those strong flavors that you either love or hate, so if it’s not for you I’m sorry but you won’t like this recipe.

The Mason Lions club met Tuesday, May 1st, for its regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 29 members in attendance. #2 Boss Lion Pat Reardon was responsible for the program and introduced Secretary/Treasurer Gene Gammill read the minutes and gave the financial report. Jess Irwin was inducted into the Mason Lions Club by Lion Gaylon Thorn.

The person who published the recipe is a “crock pot specialist.” She’s got a whole bunch of great ideas on how to cook traditional foods in nontraditional ways, using the crock pot. Her original recipe calls for cooking these cinnamon rolls for 2-3 HOURS in a crock pot, and adding some pieces of paper towel under the lid and over the top of the rolls to prevent excess moisture from dripping down on them during the cooking process.

I've always been fascinated by buildings and their relationship to their environment. As a young Boy Scout, I remember camping down at Camp Gene Ashby and exploring some of the old house ruins in the area. Citizens of Mason County, A contested race will be held on May 12th for the place of Director Precinct 3 for the Hickory Underground Water Conservation District. Gay Nesloney and Larry Lehmberg will appear on the ballot. The election will be held in conjunction with the City of Mason elections on May 12th at Mason City Hall.

Civil Air Patrol, the volunteer civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force, is recruiting members for the Cadet program in Fredericksburg. The Fredericksburg Cadet Squadron started in October 2005, and another Basic Cadet Training class is now forming. Young men and women from the ages of 12 to 18 receive training in leadership, aerospace, emergency services, basic military drill and discipline.

Grace Christian School was established in 1986 and started the school year with 17 students. It began as a ministry of Grace Fellowship Church, with John Burges as school principal and Pat Patterson as pastor. With the completion of classes this month, Grace Christian School will have completed 25 years.

On Wednesday, May 2, the FAAHC met for the annual Instillation of Officers program and luncheon. This year the event was held at the Mason Eckert Civic Center. Past Presidents, Carol Kothmann and Dana Butler, were presented plaques for their years of serving as Presidents of the organization and bouquets of flowers were given to the new officers.

Riata Service Organization met April 24, 2012 at home of Judy Cordes on the beautiful Llano River. Twenty six members were in attendance. Tammy Parish & Vondell Jordan were guest speakers. We would like to announce the formation of this new organization in Mason. Second Chance – Mason Animal Rescue believes that every single animal has value and our group is dedicated to providing shelter and placement service for homeless and unwanted animals in Mason County. We are working closely with the City of Mason and their Animal Control Officers to assist in the daily care of dogs and cats that are at the city facility as well as finding suitable homes for them.

She’s a sweet treasure sent from above wrapped in pink and covered in love. Olivia Denis Langehennig arrived March 2, 2012, at 10:35 a.m. weighing eight pounds, 11 ounces; and, was 19.5 inches long. She was welcomed by her big brother, Kalen Langehennig, parents Joe D. and Jeri Langehennig and grandparents Mike and Dianna Dail, David Langehennig, and Jimie Langehennig all of Mason.

First place in the Highland Lakes Service League Charity Golf Tournament went to a team with Mason representation. The tournament was held at Hidden Falls Golf Club in Marble Falls on Saturday. The Service League is a non-profit charitable organization contributing to the betterment of the community by providing monetary assistance to individuals and families in need.

Mason Junior High tennis finished its 2012 season with two big tournaments at home. On April 27th and 28th, the top 9 girls and boys seventh and eighth combined competed in our 6 team round robin tournament. Mason played two rounds on Friday. They played a young San Saba team and were able to come away with their first victory.
