We will continue to spray for mosquitoes this week and next. Our first attempt was very successful and with this next round we should be in great shape. St. Paul Lutheran of Mason continues to celebrate its 140th year by having Confirmation Reunions on Sunday, Sept 30th.
Preaching the sermon is former member Rev. Scott Hofmann who is pastor of St. James Lutheran, Harper. He was confirmed here in 1973. Confirmation classes from 1935 to 2012 will be recognized.

The Mason Punchers met the Comfort Bobcats on Friday night and added a third win to their 2012 record, defeating the Comfort team 48-7.
The Punchers continue to show improved offensive skills each week, and their defensive strategies improve with each contest. The Bobcats experienced the Punchers firsthand, and now become another number in the record book as the season moves forward.

This week the Puncher Pep Rally will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the high school gym to help the Punchers get their spirit tanks filled up before they head off to Christoval.
The Punchers will play Christoval on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

The Commercial Bank is preparing for their move into temporary space while they undertake an extensive remodeling of their facility. They have already begun moving non-essential items, while the secured items will be moved at an undisclosed time in the near future. The actual "move" date is scheduled for October 5th.

I thought I’d focus on a couple of laundry topics this week, it’s something everyone has to deal with. Being from NM, I really didn’t have to deal much with mildew there, so I thought this was helpful information, especially if you’re from a drier climate!

The Mason Lions club met Tuesday, September 11th, for its regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 32 members and four visitors in attendance. Among the visitors were two Mason High School seniors, Josh Jaquez and Eric Martinez.
Lion Fritz Landers was responsible for the program and introduced Randee Renfroe who spoke about her experiences at the Texas Lions Camp.

Grossville has been busy these last two weekends. The warrior hunt and then last weekend the monkey hunt. Seems the monkeys don’t move in the rain! The Monkey hunt has been going on now for some years. Yes, there are monkeys.

It's a presidential election year. But, I've got the two major parties discussing that over on page 15. The economy continues to struggle along slowly. But, I've trimmed business and personal budgets and will continue to make adjustments as needed. The world's climate fluctuates wildly attempting to correct extreme anomalies.

The Heart of Texas Country Music Association sponsored a trip to Nashville last month for 104 area country music fans. While in Nashville, the group attended the Grand Ole Opry, General Jackson Showboat, Heart of Texas Roadshow, Shotgun Red Show along with touring Loretta Lynn’s Plantation Home and Museum, Elvis’ Graceland, the Country Music Hall of Fame, Ryman Auditorium and Longhollow Winery.

Haley Pluenneke, granddaughter of Barbara and Charles Pluenneke of Mason, Texas was a recipient of the Dale Hansen Football Classic academic scholarship during The Dale Hansen Football Classic held September 8, 2012.

Jessica Lynn Fry and Michael Aaron Jennings were united in marriage on May 26, 2012, at 4:30 in the afternoon at the Roachdale Christian Church in Roachdale, Indiana. Mick Buchanan, pastor of Roachdale Christian Church officiated the double ring ceremony.

Mason 4-H Club recognizes Stripes Convenience Store The Mason 4-H Club had their first monthly meeting last Sunday and afterwards they took a field trip to our local Stripes. Stripes is doing a promotion where you can donate to the Mason 4-H Club, and in turn they will give you a coupon for a free “Slush Monkey” drink and a 1/2 price Nestle non-chocolate candy.

In June, 2011, the four small hangars at the Mason County Airport where blown apart by high winds from a strong thunderstorm. The county began a long process of determining how to replace the hangars. A grant was obtained from the Texas Department of Transportation, Aviation Division, for up to $50,000 with Mason County providing a matching amount.

The Study Club of Mason held their September organizational meeting on Wednesday, September 12th at the Mason Library. The duties of the committees were reviewed and the calendar for the 2012-2013 year was discussed. We were all very excited with the variety of programs and speakers that are scheduled.
Our first meeting will be on Wednesday, September 26th in the Stribling Room at the Mason Library.

On Tuesday, September 11th, the Fine Arts Association of the Hill Country members had their first meeting of the 2012-2013 year at 6 p.m. They met at the Mason Eckert Civic Center to receive new yearbooks and were encouraged by President, Nan Loeffler of London, Texas, to accept the challenge of creating “Unexpected ART”!
Following a welcome back, members took a road trip south of Mason to the property of artist Bill Worrell.

Our 7th grade boys did an excellent job on Thursday versus Comfort.
Truman Magnus scored our only score for the night, but all of them played hard. Unfortunately, the 2nd half of our 7th grade game was cancelled and so was our entire 8th grade game due to rain.
Hopefully our luck for next week will change and both set of our boys will get to play.

Louis Wesley Eckert, of Mason, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, at the age of 88.
Louis was born in Mason County on January 19, 1924. He was a life-long resident of Mason County. He was raised on the family ranch near Long Mountain.
As a young man he and his brother Milton showed calves at stock shows across Texas.

Nelda Jean (Jeffreys) White, 83, of Fredericksburg, Texas, and formerly of Brady, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2012, in Ft. Worth, Texas. Visitation will be Friday, September 14, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home.
