“There are two kinds of drivers who live in the Hill Country of Central Texas – those who have hit deer, and those who are going to.” ~ Me Having lived in Mason, Texas all my life, except for brief stints in Abilene and Brownwood, I’ve learned to watch for deer on the roads, especially at night.

Gee, what good rains we’ve gotten! Cooler weather is nice, too. However, I’m sorry to say, I’m still Cranky! Really stating that I’m Cranky, is really soft peddling it. There I go saying the word PEDDLING! That’s one word that really makes me Cranky. Having to push buttons and never getting a real person.

The rains over the past couple of weeks have been a great blessing and the cooler weather with them has been a relief. With the extra moisture most of our landscape watering was curtailed and the Mason water system is healthier for it, but with the prediction for clear skies and warmer temperatures I hope all of our residents remember the need for careful use of water around the house and the continued conservation of our water resources.

CLUTTER: A word described by my handy thesaurus as “disorder”. Clutter in our lives crowd out the many little pockets of space that give us serenity. Clutter can cause disruption in the family unit. Clutter can mask pain and despair. Clutter is like paint that is put over black mold to hide what is really there.

This account blows holes in the old adage claiming that folks who want jobs done right should tackle ‘em themselves. Whoa, not every time. Sometimes, when the stars align with precision and all is in place for the perfect storm, delegation is critical—clearly the, uh, “prudent” thing to do. A high percentage of failure to delegate occurs, of course, with professionals.

During the 150+ years of Mason County history, the ways that we make our living have changed and adapted time and again. Our industrious county has been peopled with those who have creativity, a great work ethic, and a willingness to take chances. Sometimes things worked in our favor, sometimes,,, not so much. Cattle, sheep and goats have ebbed and flowed as the primary driver of the economy in the county over the years.
