Tracy, Kim and Samantha Jordan kept visitors at Round Up cooled off by selling snowcones during the Arts & Crafts Fair. They raised $647 for CASA to buy school supplies for children in the counties served by the organization. There are still 46 children on the list needing assistance, so Bluebonnet CASA would definitely take more donations, according to director, Jenna Jacoby.

My friend, Dale McCorkle, along with his dad, Ed, got me interested in archery back in the early 1980s. I will be forever grateful to them for the many happy hours I’ve spent since then, scratching around in high grass, fighting my way through beebrush and prickly pear, staring at the ground looking for arrows I’ve shot and lost. See, that’s the great thing about arrows – unlike cartridges, arrows can be used over and over and over, as long as you can find them again.

On a hill on the outskirts of a little town known as Mason, Texas, there is a cave. In that cave are millions and millions of bats. This cave is where the momma bats from Mexico come to give birth to tiny babies called pups. Only one pup is born each year to a momma bat, but that one takes a huge toll on her energy.

This time of year the City is working hard to complete several tasks, but many of them are “behind the scenes” and do not get much public attention. One that I have mentioned is the job of setting the budget for the coming fiscal year. The City and the County have to complete this process by about mid-September by State law, and although the citizens are invited to submit ideas and suggestions, it is up to the administration and the elected officials in both cases to set the spending expect ...

“I really miss the seasons.” That’s a lament commonly heard from folks transplanted here who failed to get the memo that Mother Nature’s hop-scotch across Texas’ weather map is guaranteed—often daily. She chuckles at the mention of seasons in the Lone Star State. On our continent, however, are climes worthy of poster board homage to spring, summer, autumn and winter.
