Usually, when my friend, Randy Young, asks me if I want to do something, I know what he’s talking about. He speakes English, after all, and it’s better English than I use myself, so I don’t have any problem understanding what he’s saying. But last week Randy invited me to go with him on Friday to watch some event, and I had no idea what he was talking about. Not that I admitted that.

“I love a rainy night, watch the lighting light up the sky!” Me, too, Eddie! Gee, the rain was great. It was good sleeping weather and good television watching weather, if only there was something to watch on the television! They say you have 70 channels to watch? However, there are 60 that are one and two hour long COMMERCIALS! “I hate my Butt!” I really don’t hate my butt and I haven’t tuned into that channel.

Green tea is a popular beverage. It comes from the same plant that black tea does, it is just less processed so it contains more of the phytochemicals that have health benefits. Green tea is well known for its antioxidant properties that come from a particular polyphenol known as EGCG, or epigallocatechin gallate, which is over 200 times more powerful than vitamin E in neutralizing free radicals.

Today the sun is out and the sky is blue, the temperature is very pleasant and we have had about four inches of rain in the past week. There is no place better to enjoy the first cool days of fall than in Mason, and with the rains no one seems to have many complaints, except perhaps for the need to rework the water gaps.

This morning, Monday, September 23rd, is an absolutely perfect morning. The air is crisp. There is moisture in the ground. When I walked out this morning I could feel the ground give way under each step that I took. This makes me happy. It makes everything and everyone happy. Well, maybe not everyone.

Given that timing is everything, the Lone Star State’s flagship universities—The University of Texas and Texas A&M University—are once again at extremes. Could UT have picked a worse time to get its own TV sports network up and running? Or could the Aggies have selected a better time to get their own law school? At UT, they’d love to be “caught on the horns of a dilemma,” but this isn’t possible, since mascot Bevo is now “hornless,” having given up one to Brigham Young and th ...

It’s over. No. Not the drouth. Summer. Officially over. Autumn took its place. Scooted in on Sunday. Made itself to home. Bringing cool mornings. With rain to beat the band last week. A nice send-off to Summer. And a fortunate herald to Fall. Must be the season of the witch. Manna from heaven. Liquid gold. The perpetual topic of conversation. Rain. We pray for it. We wait for it. We give thanks for it. As it falls from above. Without legislation. Taxation. Discrimina ...

Dear Gerry, Thanks so much for your recent column on practicing good deeds or acts of kindness. In this day of “It’s all about ME,” we need your reminder that our lives are richer, fuller, and ultimately more satisfying when we are watching out for the needs of others. Reading the column caused me to ponder and to remember that there are different ways to think about doing good as they were exemplified and taught by Jesus, the founder of our Christian faith.

Doesn't everybody want affordable health care? Sure they do, so that's why the Republicans have renamed the Affordable Care Act as Obamacare, making it into a great boogeyman. Let's take a look at some of the benefits of the ACA, and not the Republican scare tactics. Since the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) was enacted over 6.1 million Medicare beneficiaries have saved over $5.7 billion dollars on presciption drugs.
