Ask the weekly golfer why he or she plays golf, and they usually say they do it for relaxation. Follow them around on the golf course and watch them shouting and swinging and trying to get the little ball in the hole, and the whole process looks anything but relaxing.

Christmas time is really a good time. Family and friends and the getting together, is the main thing! However, the movies are really a treat. Some may call them “Chick Flicks,” but I call them good. No shoot’n up’s, not a Christmas! I like the movies that have a happy ending and the movies with puppy dogs.

Last week Monica and I spent some quality time in Arkansas enjoying the fall foliage and taking some time away from our constant jobs in Mason. This year we also included our son’s family in our plans, so with six grandkids from ten months to nine years old in the house we had a great time making some memories, but I am not so sure about calling it a “vacation” for us.

Skin is the body’s largest organ. The skin has multiple functions – one being that it is an important organ of elimination. The Chinese medical system refers to the skin as the third kidney – meaning that it functions to rid the body of excess moisture and toxins. It is, by many measures, the most delicious season. The general populace—both serious diners and others in the amateur ranks--dream of Thanksgiving dinners. They waken salivating, comforted by assurances that within hours—or certainly days—aromas wafting from ovens are announcement enough that turkeys and other holiday fare will soon be served. For the sports-minded, the November scene is likewise heralded, and for the hardcore fan, it is might near as sacred.

In regards to the Outdoors Outpost in last week’s paper claiming the Northwest Passage is completely iced over—what a bunch of malarkey. He needs to look at some facts. A Danish-owned coal-laden cargo ship (all 738 feet of it) has sailed through the Northwest Passage for the first time and into the history books as the second bulk carrier to navigate the Arctic route.

On Friday, Donna Nelson and I were discussing our pending conversion to all new computers and all new software. We talked about the many challenges that would face us as we converted every page, every ad, every headline, every graphic.
