'Ask ten people what Christmas means to them, and you’re likely to get a dozen different answers, depending on their ages, personal beliefs, and past experiences. Children, of course, see Christmas as a chance to receive gifts. Parents enjoy providing those gifts, and engendering happiness in the little ones. We all, I hope, become a little more benevolent, a little less critical, a little more caring, as December matures. I’ve often wondered what it is about Christmas that so unites peopl ...

“Vitamins Don’t Work” This is the headline I read today. I happen to agree. Most multi-vitamins don’t work and they sure don’t prevent aging brains in men, or help those that have had heart attacks. Especially not those big one-a-day tablets sold in big box stores and that are also advertised on television. Most multi-vitamins are limited in what they can do - mostly by how many nutrients you can pack in just 1 pill.

The preparations and parties, the busy days and family gatherings, the shopping and waiting are all pretty much over by now, and the prime goal of this Christmas now is to complete the celebration and hold tight to the good memories. So often I hear people talk about their hurry to put away all the decorations and finish off the food and snacks and move on to the next project on their list, and I wonder if they really took time to soak in the importance of the Christmas season.

Likelihood is great that airlines of the world--most of them maligned by flustered flyers venting their feelings when flights go awry--owe much gratitude to a single member of their flock. WestJet, a Canadian airline, has become a social media darling with a “feel good” Christmas video that has rocketed far to the right of “viral” on YouTube and other Internet sites. For five minutes-- brief and shining moments in multiple languages around the world--it’s reaping tears of joy from m ...

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… LA, la la la la. Come to think of it…it IS Christmas. Wednesday, December 25, 2013. Fa la la la LA, la la la la. ‘Tis the season to be jolly. ‘Tis indeed. Who’s been naughty? Who’s been nice? We’ve had rain. We’ve had ice. Which means a glorious Spring. Bluebonnets now play peek-a-boo. Calling, “We’ll be seeing you.” In all the old familiar places. And all the old familiar faces. But that’s weeks away. We

About fourteen years ago, I had just rolled off the board of the Chamber of Commerce, I was becoming accustomed to my job as editor at the newspaper, and I was finding a way to migrate most of my GamTex Consulting computer customers to other providers. I was ready to revel in the increased free time I had, and then I got a call from the nominating committee at First United Methodist Church asking me to serve on the Education Committee.
