This may come as a shock to many of my readers, but I don’t speak Russian. Mark Twain once spent some time in Russia, and wrote home that it was a country full of geniuses, because they could all, even the little children, speak Russian fluently, while he could not, even after paying close attention.

A person cannot have too many biscuit recipes! Now, this one is a bit painful, and if you like your biscuits “quick and dropped,” this isn't one you'll keep on file. However, I do urge you to try it at least one time on some cold, dreary morning; you may find yourself making it again and again. Ingredients: Unsalted butter, for the pan 1 ¾ cups bread flour 1 ¾ cups cake flour 2 ½ tablespoons baking powder ¼ cup sugar 1 ½ teaspoons Kosher salt ¾ cup, plus 2 tablespoons vegetabl ...

I get a fair amount of questions on pressure canning, but it seems like pressure cooking, like slow cooking, is a underused time saver for the busy family. I thought these tips from The Bean Institute might help reassure you that it is a safe, easy method of cooking.

Cleansing is a great topic for the New Year. If you would like to be healthier or would like to lose weight, a cleanse would be a fabulous place to start. The purpose of cleansing is to help the body get rid of harmful toxins so that it runs more effectively and efficiently.

ve laid claim to the admonition we’ve all heard many times. For all I know, it may have first been stated by Emily Post, Amy Vanderbilt, Miss Manners or Little Miss Muffett. Anyway, it is well-worn: “We can disagree without being disagreeable.” That’s a possibility, of course, but there’s a much greater probability that the opposite—disagreement WITH being disagreeable—seems to be a way of life.

There’s no place like home. And there’s no place like a small town. You can find anybody real quick. If the phone doesn’t reach them, the neighbor will. Or drive around town till you find their vehicle. Or just mention their name to somebody. “I just saw her at Commercial Bank.” “He’s down at Willow Creek with the guys.” It works out of town too. Whether it's Julia Child tossing about deboned ducks, Emeril Lagasse banging pans, Paula Deen added more butter or Guy Fieri sampling all types of roadhouse food, I am addicted to cooking shows. There is something fascinating to me about the chemistry of combining ingredients, spices, temperatures and techniques to produce culinary masterpieces that taste as wonderful as they look. My latest food show is ABC's "The Taste,"
