A new exhibit at Mason Square Museum on the north side of the square tells some of the stories of Mason Volunteer Fire Department over the past 108 years. Fire departments are among those organizations protecting everyone’s lives and property…right here and now and always. That’s a simple statement for skillful and dangerous work, not usually on everyone’s mind. The Mason Volunteer Fire Company was founded in 1906 a few years after a disastrous fire destroyed part of the north side of ...

Just about every year, our cherry tomato plants produce more product that we can eat, even when we work hard at it. We eat the little tomatoes until our mouths are burned out from the acid! Fresh, on salads; fresh right out of a bowl in the refrigerator; rendered down in a skillet for tomato base for an Italian food favorite; but we still can’t keep ahead of them.

When I opened the email I got last April from ‘DONALD AND,’ I figured there was a miscommunication when the account was set up. That happened to my friend, Roy Don McBroom. He told the ISP lady on the phone he wanted his email address to be RD@whatever, but she didn’t understand.

It’s funny how we call for the time and temperature in the winter, but not in the summer. It’s funny that we make a grocery list, but come home with more than there was on our list. It’s funny that we have a ROUND UP, but then we let them go.

Zyflamend is a trademarked product made by New Chapter. While I normally do not write about a specific product by a specific maker, Zyflamend is a notable product because of the clinical studies using the product on certain cancers. Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center has tested Zyflamend on early stages of prostate cancer.

The last articles about London drew critics from the wood work as well as those that enjoyed a brief turn back to memories of parents and friends in London. It gives me great pleasure to have the calls to remind me that there is a different twist to the story other then my explanation, but if you will remember, in one of my earlier articles, I printed a hold harmless clause, so fire away.

A half-century ago, the late Nat “King” Cole crooned about the Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer. The lyrics probably “fit” US life in the early ‘60s, but hardly so today. Current summers seem jam-packed. There are “wall-to-wall” activities, early ‘til late, particularly for youngsters. In this piece, we’ll zero in on boys and girls of summer, many of whom attend vacation Bible school early on, thus avoiding conflicts with vacations, sports leagues, and many other activities.

“Ah, sleep. Perchance to dream.” Little did Billy Bob Shakespeare know what the future would bring. Oh, sure. We sleep. We dream. But all night long our email box fills up with junk. Spam, they call it. After the ubiquitous canned food. Hormel Foods Corporation must relish the free publicity. Spam is no laughing matter to them. (As they laugh all the way to the bank.) Popular since 1937. Very popular around the world. In Hawaii, they consume more per capita than anywhere else ...

My husband came across an attractive red (sandstone?) church yesterday on Salt Branch Loop, not very far from Doss. No sign is visible from outside the locked fence, but the church appears to be well maintained and may still be in use. There is a white plaque high on one wall with a cross and the date 1911.
