When Leret, the youngest of my three sons, was about five years old, he and his brothers were getting rowdy in the back of the Suburban on a road trip. I’d called them down several times, and the other two settled down some, but Leret was too wound up. This is why parents need more than one child to get the full effect of parenthood.

This all started when I got my monthly King Arthur Flour catalog and spotted a recipe for cinnamon cookies that sounded attractive. After reading it and thinking about what the end product was going to be, I decided that I’d do some research to see if I could find something similar, but different in texture.

Pricing of natural supplements impacts our choices. You might wonder why a column on natural health would be about product pricing – how much something costs is an important aspect in choosing the right supplements to take. I assume that everyone takes supplements to be healthier – otherwise why bother? But the question I ask is “are your supplements making you healthier?” I see many supplements in my day to day business – those that I sell, those from vendors who want me to sell the ...

I don’t know what you pay for your television, but whatever it is, it’s too much! The junk that is on television is just that... JUNK! Long gone are the days of really good (CLEAN) family entertainment. The “REALITY” shows are nothing but reality! Real Housewives? I don’t think so.

It is becoming more and more like something needs change in the world. If God and His Kingdom are going to prosper, we Christians need to do some sincere praying. It is never too late! Pray for leaders and statesmen that will make the tough choices that will protect the USA and our way of living.

September. What a concept. A fine month indeed. Number nine. And it always begins with a bang. Labor Day. The official end of vacation time. And beginning of school time. September marks the end of the third quarter. And it’s the bridge between Summer and Fall. Cool. To warmer. To hot. To cooler. To warm. Blue sky changes hue. Clouds cozy up. Air feels different. Smells different. Sounds different. Summer is a thing of the past. Nearly. September.

As a long time visitor, I have always considered Mason to be the “gem” of the Hill Country. But lately, the luster is dimming. While in town for the Rodeo, I noticed the neighborhoods around the beautiful town square are overrun with feral cats and have houses whose yards are littered with discarded household items and junk cars and some are in disrepair.

Let me begin by thanking everyone for the outpouring of sympathy and support after losing my canine companion of seven and a half years, Dozer Fitzgerald Gamel. That little miniature Dachshund had more fans, friends and supporters than I could ever have imagined, and he will always be missed. Your cards, emails, flowers and memorials mean more to me than I could ever possibly convey. I realized very quickly that I not only wanted to get another dog -- I needed another dog. I began by looking ...

As we begin this new year of Religious Education, we remember the early Catholics who settled in this community bringing with them their faith. They gathered in homes when the priest could travel by horseback from Fredericksburg to celebrate Mass with them. Their faith was strong. With the grace of God and after much planning and sacrificing they built a church.
