Frank Simon Jr. of Austin, Texas passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2008, at the age of 86.

He was born on July 12, 1922, in Mason County, Texas, to Frank Simon and Mary Gerdes Simon. He grew up on the family ranch and graduated from Mason High School in 1940. He went to Killeen to work at King Drug Store. Novene Jo Harris worked in the dry goods store next door and stopped by the drug store to check out the new red-headed soda jerk. Their courtship began when he fumbled and spilled a Coke in her lap.

Frank enlisted in the Navy and served 2-1/2 years in the U.S. Naval Hospital Corp in the Fleet Hospital on the island of New Caledonia in the southwest Pacific. When he shipped back to the States, Jo traveled across the country to meet him and they had a madcap wedding in San Francisco. After the war, they returned to Texas and Frank enrolled in the University Of Texas College Of Pharmacy. He practiced pharmacy for fifty-two years, first in Temple, and then in Waco in the Bellmead area. Frank and Jo lived in their Waco home in Woodway for fifty years. They recently moved to Austin to be close to their children and grandchildren.

Frank was a Master Mason since 1952 and was a member of Fidelis#1127 Masonic Lodge. He was an avid hunter and square dancer until circumstances intervened. He had a dry wit and an occasional propensity for goofy hats. Frank and Jo were members of Western Heights Baptist Church in Waco for many years.

He is survived by Novene Jo Simon, wife of 64 years; son David Frank Simon and wife Barbara of Corpus Christi; daughter Mary Virginia Simon of Austin Texas; grandchildren Gordon Frank Simon of Chicago, Jessica Jo Simon of Austin, and Samuel Taylor McCommon of Austin; brothers Damon Simon of Saginaw, Michigan, and Edward Simon of Kingsland.

A graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 1, 2008, at Live Oak Cemetery in Austin, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your local Meals on Wheels. In Austin, it is at 3227 E. 5th St, Austin, Texas 78702.
