Sterling Jordan is shown raising an American flag at the Mason County Courthouse last Thursday morning. The flag has recently flown over the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland, where Mason native, Lieutenant Commander Michael Durst is stationed. After flying over Mason for a few days, the flag will be flown over the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, (Class of ’89), and then returned to the Naval Air Station at Patuxent River where it will be presented to LCDR Durst upon his retirement from the United States Navy on March 27, 2009. Sterling Jordan, a mentor and long-time friend of LCDR Durst is a WWII Navy Veteran, having served as Quartermaster in the Southwest Pacific, 7th Fleet, off the Philippine Islands (1945-1946).
