Wednesday, January 14, 2009 • Posted January 14, 2009

Bryan McIlhany, 27, of Boerne, was killed in a two vehicle wreck in Mason County shortly before the new year.

Mr. McIlhany was northbound on Highway 87/377 and had stopped to make a left turn on to RR 1222. He was struck from behind by a Chevrolet pickup driven by Jose Moncada (26) of Weatherford, Texas, when Mr. Moncada apparently failed to notice the Toyota Camry driven by Mr. McIlhany stopped in the lane of traffic.

The rear of the Toyota Camry was crushed by the force of impact, and the vehicle was pushed to the northeast, coming to rest in a fence behind the home of Cotton and Jo Evans.

Mr. McIlhany was pronounced dead at the scene by County Judge Jerry Bearden. Mr. Moncada was treated for restraint bruises at the scene; and, his passenger, Maria Moncada (58), was transported by helicopter to Brackenridge Hospital in Austin where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
