On Saturday, October 17th in Brady, the Mason Puncher High School Band celebrated another “Division I” rating at their annual Regional Marching Band Competition. This year’s show features Carl Orff’s most famous composition, which is titled Carmina Burana. Orff’s work features twenty-four poems that are set to music. Composed between 1935-36, the original instrumentation calls for symphony orchestra and a chorus of over 200 voices (!) The poems that Orff used for this musical setting celebrate the wheel of life: life and death, love, and the ritualistic celebration of spring to name a few topics. The instrumental reduction of this work that the Mason Band is performing this year features five of the most popular twenty-four movements in this immensely powerful work by Orff.
The Mason Band Staff would like to congratulate the members of the band on their efforts this weekend and would also like to thank all of the supporters from the community that were present at the competition on Saturday. Because of the quality of their performance on Saturday, the Mason High School Band has advanced to the Area Marching Competition to be held on Saturday, October 24th in Groesbeck, TX. The performance time for the band on Saturday is 3:30 p.m. On behalf of the entire staff and members of the Mason High School Band, we would like to invite you to attend this performance in Groesbeck this coming Saturday. Please call the school for more information.
