They say a picture is...

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but this one is surely worth about a million and one. This cute little guy (a smiling grasshopper) was the object of Jana Ritter’s camera’s eye while we waited for the Mexican free-tailed bats at The Eckert James River Bat Cave Preserve to make their emergence. Needless to say, the sky grew darker and darker and no bats made an appearance.

We opened The Eckert James River Bat Cave Preserve for the season on Thursday, May 13TH, but I think that someone forgot to tell the bats. With the unsettled weather snuggling up to Mason County, it was a tad more than the bats cared for. Lightning, hail, rain, and much cooler weather were the ingredients of the whole four nights that we were opened this week. With one or more of those weather components in the mix each night, it was a waiting game that the bats won.

I am not quite sure what the weather will do this week, but even if the bats don’t make their entrance until after dark, this cute little guy that became an instant sensation will be happy to keep you smiling!! Call the bat hotline for information: 325-347-5970. We look forward to a "hoppin’ good time this season at the GREATEST LITTLE EIGHT ACRES ON THIS PLANET...The Eckert James River Bat Cave Preserve!!
