On July 5th the 28th annual Roy Cooper Junior Calf Roping was held at the Diamond T arena in Denton, Texas. In attendance were cowboys and cowgirls from across six states. Age groups consisted of the 12 and under, 13-15, and 16-19! Events included the breakaway roping and the tie down calf roping. In the 12 and under division, the entries consisted of 72 contestants in the breakaway roping and 60 contestants in the tie down roping. Each roping was a four header, which had three full go rounds and a short round. Chet Weitz who is going to be a 6th grader at Mason Jr. high this year competed in the roping. Chet walked away with the Roy Cooper Junior Breakaway Roping Championship! His total time on 4 head was 11.2 seconds, which won him a saddle, a rope can, a jacket, several ropes and many other prizes, including money. In the Tie Down Roping, he won 1st in the 2nd go round winning him a buckle, and 3rd in the 3rd go round. Chet is the son of Doyle and Renee Weitz and big brother to Chainey Weitz. He is also the Grandson to Bob Weitz of London, Texas, and Leta Walker of Amarillo.
