Upon conclusion of an in-depth study of the Holocaust and the reading of The Diary of Anne Frank, the 8th grade ELA students visited the San Antonio Holocaust Museum. Upon arrival, a guide presented a chronological and visual tour of this time period. The students then participated in an interactive discussion about various aspects of tolerance and discrimination. The educational event was climaxed with a presentation by an actual 83 year old Holocaust survivor. The students listened to an eye-witness account of what it was like to be a 13 year old Jewish girl living in a concentration camp while losing her parents, yet holding on to the hope that her siblings were still alive. The field trip hopefully gave the students a realistic view of this time period and made an impression of how discrimination and prejudice can affect our world.
