In a brief ceremony on Tuesday November 13th on the South side of the courthouse “Boss” Lion Pat Reardon and Treasurer Gene Gammil awarded the proceeds from the recent Lions Club 5K/10K event to 17 different charities and organizations. The Mason Lions Club exists to serve the local community and the motto of Lions Clubs worldwide is “we serve”. The total amount awarded was $14,000 to the following: Mason Cancer Society, $1,000; Loyal Valley Fire Dept., $500; Mason Fire Dept.,$1,000; Mason Food Bank, $1,000; R. Clinton Schulze Scholarship Fund, $1270; Wounded Warriors, $1,000; Mason Puncher Club, $500; The Haven, $1,000;Bluebonnet CASA, $1,000; Pontotoc Fire Dept., $500; Meals on Wheels ( Mason Nutrition Program ), $2500; Mason C. Child Welfare ( dual credit tuition assistance ), $1,500; Puncher Pete, $100; Puncher Pac, $500;Mason ISD-Benevolent Fund, $200; McCullough County Helping Hand, $230 and $200 to the victims of Superstorm Sandy. Many individuals and businesses gave of their time and resources to make the 5K/10K event a success but none more than Tom and Eva Tannehill and we wish to give them special recognition here.
