I am horrified by the shooting in Newtown, Ct., as I am sure everyone that heard about it is. An incident like this is beyond imagining, and my heart goes out to everyone affected by this tragedy. When something like this happens, aside from the expected media frenzy, the next thing we start hearing about is “guns need to be more regulated.”

Well, that hasn’t helped much - as the old saying goes, “if guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.” I propose that the knee-jerk anti-gun-no-matter-what people try to look at it from a diametrically opposing point of view: if EVERY ADULT IN THAT SCHOOL had been armed, that gunman would never have made it to the first classroom - the principal could have shot him dead. Maybe, if every adult in the United States were armed, carjacking, muggings, rapes, convenience store robberies, bar-room brawls, and road rage would actually DIMINISH, because everyone would know that the consequences of acting that way could be deadly. Think about it!

Those guns the killer used were legally owned by a sane human being, and the gunman was, to all intents and purposes, a normal citizen of the United States with all his unalienable rights intact. The only thing that could have stopped him, in my opinion, was a legally owned weapon. Had school officials been armed, twenty-eight lives could have been spared.
