You are invited to be the guest of the first ladies and two women governors of the Lone Star State as you dine at the Texas Governor’s Mansion, Menard Library Club-style.
The January 19th tasting luncheon, featuring recipes from Dining at the Governor’s Mansion by Carl R. McQueary, will be hosted at Menard Country Club. Seating is at 11 a.m., followed by the book review by well-known area speaker Laura Austin at 11:30 and the meal following.
Tickets are currently available for the fundraising event; seating is limited to sixty-four. Luncheon admission is $35 for one person and $60 for two. Reservations are available at Menard Public Library or by calling Lauren Porter at 325-262-2838 or 325.262.2838.
Dining at the Governor’s Mansion is a delightful collection of stories and recipes from all Texas Governor’s wives and the two female Texas Governors who have lived in the current Mansion in Austin.
Many of Menard’s outstanding cooks will prepare and serve dishes from each era represented. Copies of the book will be available for sale at $25, tax-free, along with copies of other Texas books on food.
McQueary is a lifelong Texas historian with an interest in Texas foodways and culture. He is co-author of two books about Texas’ first woman governor, Miriam A Ferguson, and he has written and edited many articles on Texas history for various historical publications.
