This is the time of the year when everyone reflects on how they can make this year better than last year. People make plans and set goals – losing weight, saving money, being a better person, and many other things.

This year we encourage you to make it your goal to make it a better year for the cats and dogs of Mason County by spaying and neutering all of your pets.

Second Chance – Mason Animal Rescue had a very, very busy year last year finding homes for unwanted cats and dogs. Most were not the offspring of feral animals. These were the kittens and puppies of beloved pet cats and dogs that for one reason or another ended up at the pound. They were adorable and friendly and just wanted a family. And for the most part, Second Chance was able to find homes for them.

But life in Mason would be easier for everyone, people and pets, if there was not such a surplus of unwanted animals. So please do your part this year and take responsibility for ensuring that your furry friends are not adding to the problem.

The pet of the week is Gracie, a sweet natured female kitten who wants a family to play with. Gracie is litter box trained and gets along well with other cats. Her photo and the photos of other animals available for adoption can be viewed on Second Chance’s Facebook page or website at www.secondchancemason.com.
