Happy New Year to all! We have a possibility of rain and it’s my sincere hope that as you read this article today, it will be pouring. What a blessing that would be.

Just a reminder that this Friday, January 11th, there will be a luncheon at the Eckert Community Center at noon, for the Patriot Warrior Foundation. Please bring your favorite side dish or dessert. Please come and honor these special veterans.

Happy Birthday to Caroline Hudson on the 10th, Beth Leifeste on the 13th, Marge Boyd on the 14th, and Lou Fleming on the 15th. May you each have a happy and blessed birthday.

Art and Trinity UMC is preparing for a Wesley Covenant Renewal Service on Sunday, January 27th. Las t Sunday, Pastor Cliff explained that this is a re-dedication or renewal of ourselves to God through a covenant with God. Unlike a New Year’s resolution, a covenant with God is between you and God. Now, having said that, how do we keep a covenant? Covenants can be accomplished through accountability in a small group setting. Whether it be you and your spouse, a group of three or four people or your Sunday School Class, sharing how we are doing with God helps strengthen and encourage us as we journey forward with love, obedience, and commitment. God has kept His promises to us. Have we kept our promises to Him? The “purpose of a Covenant Renewal is to ask ourselves, “How am I doing following Jesus?” There are four steps in preparing for our covenant with God. First, we are to set aside specific times alone with God to seek His gracious assistance and acceptance in helping us think through all the conditions of the covenant. Is there any holding back or unforgiveness that needs to be resolved? Pray about this preparation. Perhaps writing your covenant intentions down would be a good start. Including the who, what , when, where, why, how much and how often could serve as a directional outline. Be specific and honest, because there are no secrets from God. Second, we must make this covenant with a cheerful heart full of reverence, thankfullness, and admiration. Third, we are to claim God’s covenant.

We are to rely upon Gods’s promise of giving grace and strength so that we are able to keep our promise. This is NOT about depending on our will power. We must ask and trust God to give us the grace to keep our covenant along with the help of our small group, our church and our family. Fourth, we are to resolve to be faithful and changed in His likeness. Sunday, Jan 27th, we are invited to give the Lord our hearts and re-dedicate ourselves to Him. We can write our individual covenant down or keep it in our heart. We will be invited and encouraged to share our covenant journey with others in the small group settings if so desired. I think our heavenly Father who has given and continues to give so much, will be greatly pleased.

Peace to all
