Each spring there are servants who descend upon Mason for a number of weeks to assist in the building of the next Habitat for Humanity Home. These wonderful people take time out of their lives to come and help build a house for a complete stranger. The community of Mason gathers together to take care of these servants and treats them like family while they are here.
This spring will be no different. We are planning on feeding the groups lunch on Monday, Tuesdays and Fridays for the ten weeks that they will be here. They will most likely attend some of the Lenten Luncheons the churches provide during those times as well as eating in all of our great restaurants. Last year, the group was fed by Larry and Barbara Brown of the Square Plate and the Mason National Bank even picked up the tab for burgers at Northside Cafe!
Most of the lunches are served by church groups, friends who get together, clubs such as Riata or Study Club, and even some school groups. Mrs. Dudney’s classes and the 5th graders fed the Care-A-Vanners more than once last year. I have been told by many folks in the group, that Mason is the first choice among many across the country who help with building Habitat Homes.
They love our town, our people and the generosity and kindness of everyone they encounter while here. If you or a group you are involved in, would be interested in helping feed the Care-A-Vanners please give Megan Bierschwale a call (347.7666) or send an email (firstname.lastname@example.org). The first group will arrive on February 11th and the final group will depart on April 21st. If you need a place to host your lunch, I will take care of that detail for you.
