Hitchin' His Wagon to a Winner
Wednesday, January 16, 2013 • Posted January 20, 2013

Derek Renfro is the winner! It was the last weekend of September when Mason’s Lion’s Club sponsors their annual Walk/Run. At the end of this event medals and door prizes are presented. Derek, just five years old won, was the youngest participant and the winner of a one night’s stay at the Covered Wagon B&B. He was excited about winning, but had no clue what exactly he won. Over the months he kept mentioning to his parents about redeeming his winnings.

Last week the call came from Dad Will Renfro that his son had won a Gift Certificate and that he would be the accommodating adult. The day was selected and Derek brought his Dad to the Covered Wagon. Derek was excited and shared his adventure by inviting his mom and older sister to check it all out. He and his sister found the wooden snake, the chicken sitting on ‘some very hard eggs’, the small replica of a covered wagon filled with M&M’s and granola bars. He liked the idea of having a bed with a light at one end for reading and a seat at the other end for pretending to drive the wagon/bed. But the best thing he liked was the electric fireplace that throws out a good amount of heat, looks like a real fire, but you can open the grill and touch the flames.

This is one lucky boy, who I might add….is very polite, shares his experiences with others, and is eager to learn. What does he want to be when he grows up? A veterinarian of small animals, snakes, chickens, kittens and turtles. Derek and his mom are planning to run in other 10K’s between now and September 28, 2013, when Mason’s Lion’s Club will be hosting their next event. Hmmm, I wonder if he will win another door prize.
