Mel, what ya got cookin?
A few blocks north of the town square on Live Oak street you will find the North Side Café. For the past six years I would stop by about once a month for a juicy hamburger, fries, and a drink.
Recently, the café changed ownership, and Mel Polk became the proprietor. He, with the help of others, does the work required in operating the restaurant. The ownership change initially showed little noticeable operational change from the pervious management. When I found occasion to meet with Mel, I asked him about his visions for the North Side Café.
Mel’s a likeable, positive, engaging man who showed an enthusiastic outlook for the café’s future. I listened to him describing many things he would like to do with the café. In particular, I beamed at his mention of offering pizza and other menu items. Early in the third week of January, numerous patrons, as well as, my friend and I ordered Mel’s pizzas. Mel asked what we thought of the pizzas.
Much thought and discussion went into thinking of my response to Mel, and to that extent I offer the following: Mel, I really enjoyed your pizza. It was sizzling hot, stimulating in smell and presentation, and great tasting. So now I ask: Mel, what ya got cookin, now?
