Around the Square

The light is lighter.

The days longer.

Less darkness.

More lingering.

Setting sun hits the square.

Illuminates the north side.

Shimmers off the courthouse tower.

And the clock bongs. (or should)

Very little activity.

Very little traffic.

We go home.

Like birds burrowing under the trees’ leaves.

We close up shop.

We tidy our desk.

Push our chair in.

Make notes for tomorrow.

We go to the grocery store before we go home.

We go to practice.

We go to pick up the kids from practice.

Or from the babysitter.

We go check on a sick relative.

Or friend.

We run into Dollar General.

We go home.

We kick off our shoes.

Change clothes.

Maybe take a shower.

Throw a load in the wash.

Plop down in the chair.

Watch the news.

We put our feet up.

Let our hair down.

Have a cold drink.

We walk the dog.

Play with the baby.

Answer emails.

We start supper.

Set the table.

Check homework.

We eat.

It’s dark.

We clean up.

Settle down.

Tuck into bed.

Safe and secure.

We’re home.

That’s Mason.
