The Mason Lions club met Tuesday, January 22nd, for its regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 35 members and one visitor in attendance.

Lion Harold Hoerster was responsible for the program and introduced Elba Nail, Texas Department of Transportation Maintenance Supervisor, who spoke about the state road system in Mason County.

Elba said that their crew took care of over 212 miles of highway in Mason County with only contract labor (such as the litter pickup and the right-of-way mowing) being done by someone else. The local regular employees do their own vehicle maitenance and equipment maintenance as much as possible. He also talked about some of the regulations that TCEQ demands that they have to deal with on an occasional basis.

The program was very interesting and enlightening.

The club’s next meeting will be held next Tuesday, January 29th, at noon at Willow Creek Cafe.

The Mason Lion’s Club has an ongoing program to recycle used eyeglasses to people who need them. Used eyeglasses may be given to any Lion or left in collection boxes at any of the local banks. Also please contact any Mason Lion if you know of anyone in our community unable to afford appropriate eye care.
