The Mason Lions club met Tuesday, January 29th, for its regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 34 members and one visitor in attendance.
Lion Jess Irwin was responsible for the program and spoke about lawyers. Jess, being a lawyer, had some real good first-hand knowledge of the law and how it governs lawyers.
He told some interesting stories about lawyers and law firms, and how they charge for their services. He also spoke of lawyers he knew that got caught up in the handling of an estate and started embezzling funds from that estate. Jess said that money was the main reason for a lawyer to do illegal or unethical things and that was also a major problem in other occupations. He stated that lawyers were no different than anyone else, and corrupt and illegal activity goes on in all professions.
The Lions Pancake Supper raised $806 to be used for scholarships and the Lions Club thanks everyone for helping in the success of this project.
The club’s next meeting will be held next Tuesday, February 5th, at noon at Willow Creek Cafe. The program will be the monthly business meeting.
The Mason Lion’s Club has an ongoing program to recycle used eyeglasses to people who need them. Used eyeglasses may be given to any Lion or left in collection boxes at any of the local banks. Also please contact any Mason Lion if you know of anyone in our community unable to afford appropriate eye care.
