Wednesday, February 13, 2013 • Posted February 13, 2013

This past weekend some of our Mason Punchers attended Region Solo and Ensemble Contest at Howard Payne University in Brownwood. This year we had 8 HS kids and 3 JH kids perform. In Junior High we had Alixandria Baltierra perform a Saxophone solo from which she received a 1st division rating. Jackson Chapman and Kendra Klaerner each performed piano solos and each received a 1st division. In High School we had Kristen Gipson perform a clarinet solo and received a division 2 rating, Corinne Perlichek performed a flute solo and received a division 1. Staci Habecker, Cassie Benefield, James Durst, and Luke Gillespie all performed piano solos and each received a division 1. Faith Ingracia and Savannah Kast performed twirling solos and each received a division 1. Faith, Savannah, Luke, and Cassie all qualified to perform at the state competition. To qualify for state, Luke and Cassie performed a memorized Level 1 song. Faith and Savannah twirled a Level 1 solo, allowing them to qualify as well. State Solo and Ensemble competition will be held May 25th - 27th. A big thank you to Dawn Hahn who accompanied all of the instrumental soloists and congratulations (because she teaches the piano students!). Also a big thank you to Ms. Dye for working with the instrumentalists on their solos.
