Texas Topaz Day
Wednesday, March 20, 2013 • Posted March 20, 2013

Texas Topaz Day is coming. Saturday, March 23, we will celebrate Mason County topaz, the state gem. The town will be full of rock hounders, geologists, gemologists, gem dealers, and gem cutters.

A number of ranches are available that day for topaz hunting, with guides to along to help. Rock shops from around the Hill Country will be on the sidewalk on the north side of the square. Inside Gems of the Hill Country will be gem dealers, both finished gems and gem faceting rough.

Texas Faceters’ Guild will demonstrate gem faceting at Gems of the Hill Country. They will again exhibit their Famous Diamond Replica collection. This collection of about 35 cubic zirconia are replicas of some of the famous diamonds of history. There are new additions created in the last year, including a replica of Elizabeth Taylor’s diamond.

Another new addition is the Texas Cutters Collection exhibit. This collection is our local topaz cut by gem cutters of Texas, including all four of our local cutters.
