Gypsy Jazz by Katie Holmes Project at the Odeon
Wednesday, April 3, 2013 • Posted April 3, 2013

With Austin’s SXSW behind her Katie Holmes brings her special talent to the Odeon Theater Saturday April 20 at 7:00 PM. Katie Holmes and band, have a unique Gypsy jazz sound - old world, like something you’d hear in a Paris cafe long ago.

But you won’t be in a Paris cafe, of course - but the old Odeon Theater in Mason and the music seems just as natural here. At the young age of 5 years, when asked if she wanted to play violin or fiddle, Katie stated “I want to play the music you clap your hands and stomp your feet to”.

And so it began. Learning from and spending time around fiddle greats Johnny Gimble, Mark O’Connor, Buddy Spicher, Paul Anastasio, and Randy Elmore, Katie grew up inspired by music of older generations. With a passion for Django Reinhardt and Stephanne Grappelli’s Hot Jazz, Katie’s brand of music has been coined as “Sling Music”.

Katie is a regular at Django Festivals in and around Texas and is always a crowd favorite. This will be a red letter day for the Odeon. Reservations are $20 per person and can be made and paid for online at or by calling Dennis or K Evans at 325 347 6781. Doors open at 6:30. Concessions will be open and guest are welcome to bring their favorite beverage.
