Habit #5 Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood

Mason Elementary is a Leader In Me School. This year the students at Mason Elementary have been learning about the 7 Habits of Happy Kids and how they can be used in our everyday lives. Currently we are learning about Habit 5 Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood. This Habit simply means listen before you talk.

There are many different ways that students can use Habit 5 in school and out of school. One way is to not ignore others when they are talking to you. Good listeners look at the person they are talking to. Another way to use Habit 5 is to let people tell you their point of view first. This is a sign of a good listener and shows respect for others. After you listen to someone, it is then his or her turn to listen to you.

The 7 Habits have encouraged students at Mason Elementary to show leadership, communication, respect and time management. We can choose to become good listeners, which will help us to become better leaders.
