Wednesday, April 24, 2013 • Posted April 25, 2013

Attending the April 16th Mason Garden Club Meeting at the Stribling Room of the Library were 14 members and 1 guest. The program was on”Making Soaps, Lotions, and Fresheners” and was presented by Wendy Hastings, Laura Hansen and Penny Peterson, with Sande Shaw supporting.

These members have been making these items recently and wanted to share this with the Garden Club members. Laura Hansen gave an interesting program on how she found shampoos, lotions, and soaps made without harmful chemicals. You can make many of these products using items from your kitchen. She discussed some of the toxic chemicals found in cosmetics, shampoos, soaps, cleaning items, and laundry soaps and advised us to read the ingredients on the label and avoid those that are toxic. Displays and instructions on making some of our everyday products were presented.

Wendy Hastings and Penny Peterson showed everyone how to make a non toxic air freshener using essential oils and water. Each person made an air freshner to take home.

There was a lively discussion about what we had learned.
