Annual Rocket Launch This Weekend at Willow City
60 mile-high flights set for May2-5
Wednesday, May 1, 2013 • Posted May 2, 2013

For four days the skies over Willow City will be buzzing with up to 60 rockets sent upward for Rockets 13, on May 2-5, 2013.

Rockets 13 is the culminating activity for students in the SystemsGo Aeroscience program at 30 Texas high schools. The STEM curriculum--originally developed at Fredericksburg High School--directs first-year students to design and build a launch vehicle that will carry a one-pound payload one mile high.

Launches are scheduled to take place approximately every half hour all day long at Stewart's Hillview Ranch, located north of Fredericksburg off the Willow City Loop. Students will be doing final prep on their rockets each morning in the Willow City Fire House. All visitors are welcome to attend both locations at no charge.

(Organizers remind the public that the area should be considered an experimental testing range. Schedule may vary due to weather conditions, mobility will be limited, access will be controlled, and visitors need to be aware that this is the first flight of all rockets.)

In between launches, there will be activities, demonstrations, and tours for families. Food and restroom facilities will be available. Admission is free.

Direction signs will be posted from Fredericksburg. Maps to the site, launch schedule, and complete listings of activites are online at www.systemgo.org. Links to live steaming will also be posted on the web site.
