Memorial Day weekend is behind us and in just a couple of days school will be out for the summer. One caution is to watch as you drive around town in the next few weeks as the “free” school children are more likely to be out on bicycles or with friends and may not be as aware of traffic as we would wish. Watch out and we will all be safer and protect each other. With the summer heat and the freedom to play and enjoy the sunshine we have opened the City Swimming pool for the recreation of our whole community. We were open for Memorial Day weekend, but closed for this week since the kids still have to attend school even if the atmosphere is more relaxed, and had a few special parties. However, starting with this coming Saturday, June 1 we will be open at the pool for our regular schedule for the summer.

The City swimming pool will generally be available for open swim on Monday through Friday for session 1 from 10:30am to 1:25 and for session 2 from 2:00 to 4:55pm. Saturday regular hours will be 10:00am to 1:00 and 1:30 to 3:30, but of course on any day if bad weather threatens or if some other significant reason arises we may have to change the hours or close the pool. We are also scheduling a Fitness Swim for those wanting this exercise option for Monday thru Saturday from 7:00am to 8:00am. For evening swims we have and Adult only swim session on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5:30pm to 6:30pm and a Family Swim for everyone in the family on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at that same time.

The rate for each swim session is the same it as was for the past year at $1.50 per person per session, and for those who expect to use the pool regularly there is a Season Pass available for $45.00 each and a ten day pass for $15.00 for those grandkids that come to visit. In addition to the regular schedule of swim times, the pool can also be rented for private parties, and has already been rented for several occasions during the summer. It is available after the regular swims in the evenings on Monday through Friday from 6:30 to 8:30, Saturday after 4:00 pm and most of the day on Sunday. There is a charge of $40.00 per hour for a group of 40 or fewer and $55.00 for a larger group, and reservations can be made by calling the City Office. In addition, if you have any questions about hours of operation, rules of using the pool or any concerns about safety or other issues, please feel free to call the City office at 347-6449 and we will try to get you the answers or deal with whatever concerns you might have.

We hope that this summer will be the best for the use of our City swimming pool, and we have done several things to improve the operation and enjoyment of our local and visiting kids and adults. Mason is a great hometown and a wonderful place to visit, and I hope that you consider the pool as one of the enjoyable places for summer recreation here in the area and use it as often as possible. In a few weeks the City Commission will be meeting for a special session of goal setting and budget considerations. If you have ideas for projects that would contribute to the improvement of Mason, please let us know and we will add it to the list of things we can work together toward as we plan a better community.

Your friend and neighbor, Brent Hinckley
