Zonta Club Awards Scholarships

The Zonta Club of Fredericksburg received a record number of scholarship applications for the 2013 scholarships to be given by the Club. Chairman Karleen Carlisle and her committee had the monumental task of selecting ten recipients out of the forty three qualified applications they received. The Club gratefully acknowledges the numerous anonymous donations made to its Scholarship Fund. Those donations, together with the Club’s fund raising activities, enabled the Club to award ten scholarships of $1,000 each this year.

A special Scholarship Awards Banquet was held on May 21, 2013 at the Golden Hub Senior Center to honor the ten young ladies in all levels of learning from around the Hill Country area and their families. Among the recipients of the scholarship awards are two graduates of Fredericksburg High School who are former members of the Z Club that is sponsored by the Zonta Club of Fredericksburg. The Z Club is a service organization of high school students whose objectives are in keeping with those of Zonta International; being, the advancement of women worldwide through service and advocacy. These recipients are Kendra Jones a 2012 graduate of Fredericksburg High School and Aubrey Houston a 2012 graduate of Fredericksburg High School. Kendra attends West Texas A&M University. Her goal is a Masters in Music and Performance. Aubrey is attending McMurray University, working towards a Performing Arts Degree. She plans to become a teacher.

There were also two other recipients from the Fredericksburg area. Mireya Robles, a 2013 graduate of Fredericksburg High School, who plans to attend Austin Community College then the UTHSC for an RN Degree. She plans to become a Nurse Practitioner.

Jeanette Pressler is attending Austin Community College with plans to attend Texas Tech to receive her BA and Masters. She is an English Major. Jeanette is also a wife and mother of two teenage daughters.

Three young ladies were selected from Blanco High School they are Megan Nabers a 2007 graduate. She is a graduate of Texas State University in Micro Biology working towards becoming an MD at UTMB. Destiny Hicks is a 2013 graduate who plans to attend San Antonio College for two years and then the University of Texas to become a Medical Perfusionist. Lastly is Annie Albrecht a 2013 graduate who plans to attend the University of Texas. Her goal is a degree in International Relations and Global Studies.

Two young ladies were selected from Mason High School they are Elena Ramon a 2013 graduate who plans to attend Texas A&M University. She plans to become a Civil Engineer and Courtney Brown a 2013 graduate who plans to attend Angelo State University. Her goal is to get an RN Degree and become an Ultrasound Technician.

One young lady was selected from Harper High School she is Maria Ceballos a 2013 graduate who has been accepted at Schriner College and Angelo State University. Her goal is a degree in Business then on to Law School focusing on Criminal Law.

The Zonta Club of Fredericksburg is proud of these young ladies and look forward to helping them achieve their life goals and dreams.
