1959 Class Reunion
Wednesday, June 5, 2013 • Posted June 5, 2013

On May 4th a group of old friends met for a reunion. In this case, “old friends” refers to the length of the relationships, certainly not to the people. Mainly what these friends have in common is one thing – they each belonged to the Mason High School class of 1959.

Jimmie, Gary, and Jim Schmidt hosted the group of 35, of which 24 were classmates, at their Wildlife Ranch facility. Their warm hospitality and comfortable surroundings was the background for an afternoon of “remember when’s” and catching up on each other’s lives since our last reunion.

A time was set aside to remember our twelve deceased classmates. Each one is remembered by a memorial brick set around the library’s Old Yeller statue, a fitting tribute to a class of which Mike Gipson was a part. The last brick set was in memory of Pat Keller, our star running back. Elaine Leifeste O’Neal’s husband, Robert, was remembered for his help and support in past reunions.

The group was served a catered barbeque meal by a “painted” lady and her entourage. The “painted” lady had been a runner in a charity race that day which somehow involved paint.

As the day drew to a close, it was mutually decided to meet again in two years on the last Saturday in April at the same place. Jimmie said,” They would leave the lights on for us!”
