Mason Youth Baseball Starts All Star Play
Wednesday, June 5, 2013 • Posted June 5, 2013

The 2013 Mason Youth Baseball and Softball (MYB) season came to a close last Thursday, May 30th with baseball and softball kids enjoying “fun” events. Players competed in activities such as a Home Run Derby, a Speedy Gonzalez base running timed event, and the Fastest Strike contest. All coaches, sponsors and teams were recognized followed by the announcement of the All Star Teams.

All Star Teams will be playing tournaments during June and Mason will be hosting a baseball or softball tournament each weekend of June. The Boy’s 8-U All Stars and 14U All stars will be hosting their tournaments on June 7-8. The 10U Boys will host a tournament on June 14-15 and the 12U Boys will host theirs on June 21-22. Please visit the fields and support the Mason teams. The Girls softball tournaments will be confirmed later.

As the closing of the Mason Youth Baseball (MYB) regular season comes to an end, the MYB board wishes to thank all the parents, the volunteer coaches, and the sponsors that make our baseball and softball youth program successful year after year! Your support is critical to our program running smoothly. MYB had over 240 children participate in youth baseball/softball this spring, and we fielded 25 teams. That number represents a 25% increase over the past year.

Several improvements were made this spring to facilitate child safety. Both of the Little League fields are now fitted with yellow poly-pipe and purple windscreens. Drive out and see how impressive the fields look. These safety improvements were made possible through the generous grant donation form the Mason Community Foundation. Purchases from the Community Thrift Store help fund the grants which are awarded to Mason area organizations and your support of this effort is also appreciated.

The MYB Board applied for, and was awarded, a second grant this year for an amount of $15,000.00. These funds will be used to purchase Play Scape Equipment. MYB will partner with the City of Mason to erect the playground equipment within the next few months.

The MYB Board would like to thank Mayor Brent Hinckley, City Manager John Palacio, and staff, and Mason ISD staff, Eli Castillo and Alfred Menchaca for their support.

Special thanks each 2013 Mason Youth Baseball (MYB) Board member for the countless hours they dedicated to managing the program and to managing the facilities. Every board member had the children’s best interest in mind.  Let them know you appreciate their volunteerism when possible. Board members are: President - Homer Sanchez, Vice President - Justin Fisher, Treasurer - Melinda Baker, Baseball Coordinator - Sherry Keller, Softball Coordinator - Pam Armstrong, Umpire Coordinator - David Evens and Concessions Chair - Sherrie Anderson.

The 2014 MYB Board Officers were elected during the Closing Ceremonies last week and they begin duty on August 1, 2013.
